It was a pretty typical day at the base. There had been a recent mutant attack but since there were enough citi to now form a backup team, Dallas had taken some of the new citi out to test their skills against the enemy while the remaining members tested their skills out on each other.
Well, that had been the plan anyways.
Reno and Pup disappeared the moment Dallas was gone, no doubt to explore the underground city. Dmitri was currently somewhere in one of the labs working on his latest theory and Kai and Angie were having a "friendly" match against one another.
Well it had started out that way at least.
The rules were simple. No elemental powers were allowed, only skill, speed and physical contact only. Kai may have been stronger and was fairly strategically adept when it came to fighting than the fox tailed girl but she was faster in both speed and reflexes; so they were fairly even.
They'd been at for about fifteen minutes. Both were covered in a layer of sweat but neither of them refused to back down. For Kai, it was an enjoyable workout. For Angie, she had only one desire and that was to kick Kai's ass.
"You ready to quit Wolf?" Angie demanded as she Kai circled one another for the umpteenth time now. "You look tired."
Kai feigned a high kick before ducking down to kick her legs out from beneath her. She dodged and aimed for an opening by his shoulder. He quickly blocked her, snorting. "I could keep this up all day. I'm not out of breath, unlike you." He told her.
Angie stuck her tongue out at him before she lunged at him. Whipping her tails around, she smacked him across the face with them and he stumbled. Seizing the opportunity, she full body tackled him and pinned his arms to the ground, a triumphant smile plastered to her face as she felt the air rush out of his lungs. "Who's out of breath now huh?" She demanded, trying to catch her own breath in the few seconds she had.
She never quite understood why she hated him so much or why she was harboring a crush on the wolf citee. He was quiet but when he opened his mouth he was rather blunt and harsh with his opinions. He was seemingly cold and uncaring to those who worked at the base but she had seen the warm side of him when he was with friends or humans who lived in the underground cities. What was with these mixed emotions?
Suddenly the world turned upside down as Kai, using her arms as leverage, twisted. Suddenly she was on her back and Kai was straddling her waist, pinning her wrists above her head.
He smirked at her, pleased that he had reversed the situation. Angie's eyes widened as her heart sped up about fifty paces. Not only did he have her where he wanted her, he was so close she could smell that faint musty scent that seemed to accompany Kai wherever he went.
Refusing to look him in the eyes she snorted. "Cheap shot." She muttered as what might've been a blush rose to color her cheeks.
Kai leaned in close, his breath tickling her ear. Squirming, (this was so unfair Damnit!) she felt his hot breath brush against her ear, sending shivers down her spine. "What are you going to do about it?" His voice was low and almost teasingly. She felt her face flush.
"Ow! Reno! Lemme go!"
Kai looked up and Angie looked to the left to see Pup and Reno in the doorway to the practice floors. The citee had the human child in a half hug, one of his hands covering Pup's eyes.
"Sorry!" he called and then grinned wickedly. "Oh, are we interrupting something?" He asked.
Not wanting her secret revealed (if it hadn't been already) Angie set her hands on fire, engulfing Kai's own hands in flames. With a yelp he tumbled off, shaking out his hands as Angie scrambled to her feet. "You win this time Wolf." She snapped. "But it's the last time." With that she marched out of the practice room, Reno and Pup quickly getting out of her way.
Kai was clearly confused. Since when did Angie give up so quickly? And what was all that blushing for? Was that a girl thing? "Was it something I said?"
