"What's wrong with you two?" Selia placed a large chocolate milkshake in front of an unusually depressed looking Amira and a piece of Zeke's seasonal Fourth of July lava cake in front of a rare sight of a downhearted Fay. "I m honestly a little worried here." The comment was directed more at Fay than Amira. "What happened?"

Both girls sighed heavily before saying in perfect synchronization, "We blew up Spinner's hopes and dreams and crushed his very soul in about five seconds."

Selia blinked. "One second." Selia took the tray she had been using back over to the counter, poured herself an iced tea and then slid into the booth next to Fay. "Ok. Start talking."

"Spinner brought home three Buster loads of fireworks." Amira explained. "He bought out four firework stands and bought whatever Jazmine smuggled out of Sheriff Johnson's office."

"I think I know where this is going." Selia remarked, her eyes wandering over to Fay.

"It's not entirely her fault." Amira said playing with the straw in her milkshake. "I've never seen fireworks before and when they were mentioned last week I did a bit of research. So when Spinner came back with all of them…I just wanted to look." She sighed and rested her forehead on the table. "And then it was how do humans say it, "downhill from there?"

"Spinner caught us looking." Fay explained. "He wasn't mad!" She said quickly when Selia raised her eyebrows up. "In fact he was super excited cause he then went into an explanation about how he was going to put on this super awesome fireworks tomorrow night!" Fay let her shoulders droop a little. "And then we accidently blew everything up."

"How?" Selia asked. Both Fay and Amira looked relatively unhurt and clean.

"Sparkler." Amira grumbled from the table. "He let us both try a Sparkler about fifty feet away from his collection. And then the storm shock alarm went off."

"It was lots of fun!" Fay's face lit up for the first time since entering the diner. "We could write out names with smoke and make all sorts of designs! But the alarm kind of….startled us."

"And you both managed to blow up Spinner's hopes and dreams and crush his very soul in about five seconds." Selia finished. "How's he doing?"

"He hasn't come out of his room since this morning." Amira said lifting her head up from the table finally. "He's trying to recover."

"Not even pizza and videogames can cure him?" Selia asked.

Fay shook her head. "Sherman tried that. Spinner said he didn't feel like it."

Selia nearly choked on her beverage. "Spinner? Not feeling like playing video games?" She asked in between coughs. "You really did crush his soul!"

"Please don't remind me." Amira sighed, lowering her forehead once again to converse from the tabletop. "Even though we cleaned up the mess, there's no way we can replace all those fireworks before tomorrow night. Everybody's sold out for miles around. I checked."

"He'll get over it. Someday." Selia said finally. "Maybe."

"I feel so bad!" Fay mumbled. "I really want to make it up to him but it's not like fireworks grow on rocks or anything."

Amira's head shot up. "Fay, you're brilliant!" She cried.

"I know. Now tell me why." Fay said looking confused.

"I'll explain on the way. Come with me!" Amira said. She grabbed the disguised yellow sentient and dragged her out of the diner with a hurried goodbye to Selia, who only managed to hear Fay yell,

"But I haven't finished my cake yet!"

~~~
Amira burst into the lab and grabbed Sherman's large encyclopedia of the Earth's minerals. She scanned through it in record time, grabbed a large cardboard box from the closet and began to collect beakers and test tubes at an incredible pace.
Fay popped in to take the full box down to the Silphilron, and then reappeared to grab the second box Amira handed her.
"What are you two doing with half my testing equipment?" Tezz wanted to know. He stood in the doorway, arms crossed, with look on his face that stated that he was clearly not amused. "Haven't you two done enough already today?"
"Sorry! Can't talk right now." Amira pushed past him, her arms loaded with Sherman's laptop and two empty notebooks. "Tell you later!"
~~~

Several hours later Amira and Fay arrived back at the Hub, passing the battle force 5 on their way in. The group managed to pull into the Hub just in time to see Amira and Fay disappear up the lift with their arms full.

"What're they up to?" Stanford asked.

"Probably blowing up somebody else's hopes and dreams." Spinner said, hanging lifelessly from the Buster's Hatch door. "Just wait for the explosion."

"Come on Spinner. It was an accident." Vert consoled. "It could have happened to anybody."

"Does anybody else have four firework stands worth of awesomeness stashed away somewhere?" Spinner asked. "I didn't think so."

"Come on. Let's hit Zeke's." Sherman said. "Maybe a pizza with extra hot sauce will take your mind off things." He suggested.

"Maybe. I doubt it." Spinner grumbled but he crawled off the Buster and followed his brother to shower and change clothes. "I don't see how a pizza can cure a shattered soul."

~~~
Amira and Fay barged into the lab, after unlocking it and set all their materials on the previously emptied table.
"All right. You keep an eye on the door, I'll start mixing and" Amira said as she opened up Sherman's laptop.
"What're you two doing?" Fay asked peering under the table.
"Who're you talking to?" Amira asked frowning.
Fay straightened up and pointed beneath the table. "Tezz and Lex are—"
"Cleaning!" Lex sprang up from beneath the table, hastily buttoning his shirt and retying his hair tie. "Tezz asked me to help him clean the lab this afternoon since ye and Fay took off and—"
"How do you get past the lock I installed on the lab door?" Tezz demanded emerging from beneath the table. He was furious. "It kept everybody else out."
"It wasn't that hard." Amira said. "Sorry. Were we interrupting something?" She asked with a straight face.  Behind her, Fay was trying to stifle her giggles.
"As a matter of fact yes." Tezz snapped. "If you would be so kind as to leave—"
"No can do!" Fay said giving Tezz a mock salute. "We have work to do!"
"In all fairness, we were here first." Lex said with a smile. "Sorry."
Amira smiled sweetly. "Oh really?"
Vert and Agura were walking past the lab when the door suddenly flew open and Tezz and Lex both were thrown out and into a heap in front of them.
" Bye bye!" Fay called with a wave as the door slid shut and locked.
Tezz detangled himself from Lex and sprang up to pound on the door. "Amira! Fay! Open this door at once!" He yelled.
"That was a bloody unfair move." Lex complained as Agura helped him up.
"What happened?" Vert asked as Tezz began furiously typing on the keypad.
"Amira and Fay came in like they'd seen the light and kicked us out." Lex grumbled. "Or rather she picked us up with her sentient powers and threw us out the door."
"She's changed the password!" Tezz growled.
"Then use the override code." Vert told him, a little amused by Amira and Tezz fighting over the lab like children.
"It's been rewritten!" Tezz snapped. "She's changing the code as I try to bypass it!"
"What?" Vert and Agura looked at each other. "Amira!" Vert pounded on the door. "We need to talk!"
"We can talk later!" Amira called back. "Sorry Vert."
"Just what are you doing in there?" Agura asked as Tezz gave up, rubbing his temples with his fingertips.
"I'm sorry. I can't tell you right now." Amira answered. "Please go away and leave us alone for now."
"We promise not to blow anything big up!" Fay's voice added.
"Oh great." Vert ran his hand over his face. "Just open the door."
"I said we can't! Go away!"
"And if we don't?" Lex wanted to know.
"I'm sending Fay out there with Tezz's highly charged electrical glove that he forgot to put back on."
They all looked at Tezz's hand. It was bare of any highly charged electrical glove that he rarely took off when in the Hub. Vert, Agura, Tezz and Lex all raised their eyes to look at each other and then at the door where they knew Fay and Amira were hiding.
"I think we should leave the lasses' alone for now." Lex said finally.
"I think so too."
"Agreed."
"Hmph."
When the rest of battle force 5 arrived back from Zeke's they discovered that Amira and Fay were still locked inside the lab. The next morning, the fourth of July, they were still locked in there. By mid-afternoon they still hadn't appeared even after two different storm shocks.
"Aren't they getting hungry at least?" Stanford asked when they returned from their second run of the Multiverse.
"Fay has been teleporting to the kitchen in order to provide adequate substance for both her and Amira." Sage told him.
"Can't you do anything to get them out?" Vert asked. He, Zoom and AJ had spent the morning trying to listen in and determine just what the two were doing in there but they had heard nothing.
"It is not my place to determine whether what they are trying to do is right or wrong." Sage said. She hesitated a minute and then said, "I believe they will have completed what they are trying to accomplish by tonight."
"Think they'll be going to the…" Zoom trailed off catching a glimpse of Spinner in the corner of his eye, "diner tonight with us?" He finished.
"It is highly unlikely." Sage admitted. "Amira and Fay have informed me that you are to leave them behind if they have not completed their mission by the time you leave."
"Oh." Zoom shrugged at Vert who shook his head.
At six o clock the battle force 5 headed out to Handler's Corners to participate in the festivities planned for that evening. While they couldn't convince Amira and Fay to join them, they did manage to persuade Spinner to leave his room and try to enjoy him a little bit that night.
At ten o'clock the fireworks show started.
By eleven-thirty the crowds had dispersed and Zeke was closing up shop as the Battle Force 5 headed back to Spectra Motors. All seemed calm and quiet in the desert. There was a soft breeze blowing away the heat of the day and there wasn't a cloud in the endless starry sky.
Until their watches went off.
"Battle Force 5. Unknown enemies have arrived on Earth." A hologram of Sage appeared on their dashboards. "Amira and Fay are pursuing them as we speak but it is only a matter of time before they are outmatched."
"Where are they?" Vert demanded.
"I am sending Amira's coordinates. You must make all haste." Sage said and logged off.
"Shouldn't we stop by the Hub and get our shock suits?" Stanford asked as they headed off the smooth highway and onto the uneven brash of desert.
"No time." Agura told him. "If we stop, the enemy might swoop in on Handler's Corners."
In fifteen minutes they had reached the coordinates Sage had given them. They were on a plateau overlooking the salt flats. In the distance, Zeke's diner was just a dull red glow. Amira and Fay were sitting on the hood of the Silphilron, waiting for them.
"Amira, where's the enemy?" Zoom demanding skidding the Chopper to a stop.
"Enemy?" Amira asked raising her eyebrows.
"Who told you that?" Fay asked with a grin.
"But Sage said…" Vert stopped, confused. Both girls were grinning.
"We don't know what enemy you're talking about but we do ask that you exit your vehicles and prepare yourself for an evening of wonder and delight." Fay said standing up and sweeping her arms out wide. "Especially you Mr. Cortez!"
With a pop she was gone and there was a scream from inside the Buster. Seconds later the hatch opened and Spinner jumped out of the Buster, Fay following him with what looked like one of AJ's 3 day old unwashed socks in her hands.
"Get it away from me!" Spinner yelled.
"Press the button!" Fay yelled at him back.
"What button?"
"That button!"
"Where? Ack! Don't touch me with that!"
"This button." Amira handed Spinner a remote control with a three foot antenna attached to the top. "Here."
"What's this?" Spinner wanted to know.
"Our apology for blowing up your hopes and dreams and shattering your soul into a thousand little pieces in about five seconds of course!" Fay chirped.
"Huh?" Spinner blinked at her.
"Just press it." Amira sighed. "You won't regret it. I promise."
Spinner eyed Fay, who was twirling AJ's sock around one finger as she hovered by the Buster, suspiciously before pressing the large red button in the middle of the control.
There was a shriek from below the cliff and a dozen fireworks shot into the sky. However, instead of just exploding into thousands of pretty fireworks, they formed what appeared to be a glowing, revolving storm shock. Seconds later, several more shrieks shot into the sky. The portal remained open as several vehicles materialized out of the portal.
The Battle Force 5 could only look on it awe as each vehicle materialized out of the portal. The portal eventually faded but the show continued on.
After a few "battles" with the Sark and Vandals, the fuser appeared in the sky and opened up as the combinations of various vehicles emerged from one end. Vert and Zoom whooped as the Skyknife rocketed through the night sky cheers as the Smashclaw trashed red and blue Sark to Agura and the Cortez brother's delight.
The show ended with the Portal re-opening and all of the battle force 5 members jumping into the portal, the Buster being last. It seemed to skid to a stop before it turned and shot various flash grenades and other explosives into the air before jumping into the portal and it closed. Those said explosives continued to explode for a few seconds more before fizzling out and the sky became dark and silent once more.
"That was the BEST FREAKIN GIFT EVER!" Spinner yelled.
Amira and Fay sighed in relief and slumped onto the ground, sudden exhuasted.
"Oh good." Amira rubbed her eyes. "I'm pleased that you enjoyed it."
"Me too." Fay yawned.
Sherman elbowed Spinner. "Got anything to say?" He mouthed.
Spinner stared at him and then it dawned on him. "Oh. Uh thanks and I guess I umm forgive you for…blowing up my hopes and dreams and shattering my soul?" Spinner said trying to remember what Fay had said before.
"You're welcome." Amira's eyes closed and she promptly went to sleep, Fay not far behind her.
Happy 4th of July!
It's a little early but that's because I don't know if I'll get a chance to post it on the 4th of July. So its a bit early. I'm sure SOMEWHERE in the Multiverse its Monday.
